| 19.10.09 | WHYTELEAFE POOL NEWS

Swimmers at Whyteleafe pool have experienced this term water temperature that is slightly less than the usual warm water at this popular location.

The lower pool water temperature has been caused by the new plant fitted to control pool room humidity and pool water temperature.

The new plant system is quite fascinating, the unit is located at school entrance end of the pool building. The system measures the room temperature and the humidity in the air. Swimmers may remember that the pool windows used to run with water especially during the winter. This was due to the high water temperature evaporating into the pool room. The new system monitors the air humidity and claims back the heat that is coming out of the pool. This humidity and heat is channelled to a reclaim unit that draws off the heat and removes the humidity. The drier warm air is then returned to the pool. The system is much more efficient than the previous heat only boiler.

The boiler system installed to supply heat to both the air and the water temperature was found in the commissioning trials to be slightly undersized. This is why the pool temperature has been 30 – 31 degrees Celsius. This temperature is acceptable for normal swimming activities. Due to the warmer water requirements of Baby Swimming and to meet the demands of the school, the contracting company have at the end of last week, fitted a larger boiler unit at no cost. The pool water temperature was measuredon Sunday 19th October at 32 degrees and today is back to a lovely 32.8 (33) degrees.

We would like to thank the school for acting so promptly to the demands of our swimmers and to the swimmers themselves for understanding the pool temperature was something we had to work on and could not resolve immediately.

In addition at Whyteleafe, we have been working with the pool to assist in the cleaning of the pool whilst the new plant was being refitted during the term break. Ultan, (the mighty Celtic), visited the pool on several occasions, donning his SCUBA diving equipment to pressure wash the pool basin, whilst the pool was being commissioned with the new heating plant installed.

We hope everyone enjoys the lesser humidity and the now warmer water and continues to enjoy swimming through to Christmas  with us this term.

| 08.09.09 | COURSE FEE INCREASE - COURSE FEE INCREASE KEPT TO A MINIMUM

New Course Fee - Minimal Price Increase - October 09, Autumn Term

Aquatots, has to announce a new course fee increase of 3 pounds fifty pence per swimmer per term. The rise in course fees  has unfortunately occurred due to the continued increase of some pool hire fees. The swimming pools are keen to express that their increase in hire charges are in direct proportion to the rise of the cost of fossil fuels (i.e; Gas Bills)required to heat the swimming pools. Aquatots, always try to find ways of avoiding an increase of our course fees at anytime and appreciate doing so now in the current economic climate may not be a wisest of decisions. Price increases are not something that we have choose to just do with out much thought and consideration.  Aquatots, have absorbed the costs of the hire fees throughout the current year. However, some of the more recent rises in pool hire have resulted in some pool sites just tipping to not break even. As a result, to cover the majority of increased pool hire costs, we have marginally increased our per lesson fee by 39 pence per lesson.

We hope you, our swimmers will try to understand, not only, why we have had to implement the current increase, but  consider we have tried to keep the rise to an absolute minimum. Please do not hesitate to contact us at the office to discuss if in the current climate, an option to divide the course fee payment into two equal monthly payments of 56.25  would be of assistance with course fee  payment, please just send in two cheques. We will bank them a month apart.

Thank you all for your custom throughout the summer. We hope to see you all swimming in the Autumn Term.

Happy Swimming – The Aquatots Team
